Different accommodations in Oxford
People come to Oxford from all over the world. They come for the university, the diverse spiritual life, or for the history. They might be there overnight and then move on, or they might plan to stay for much longer, perhaps to do some research at the university or to absorb the feel of a new, or old, place. If you're thinking about going to Oxford for any of these reasons, or for reasons of your own, you will need a place to stay. Oxford offers many different kinds of accommodations, depending on the length of your stay, the number of people in your party, the purpose of your visit, and the price range you can afford. One option for travellers to Oxford is to stay in an apartment or other residence. These are also called “self-catering” establishments because rather than eating at restaurants or cafeterias, if you’re staying in one of these residences, you have the option of buying and preparing your own food in the kitchen of the home, which is much more economical than eating out. Self-catering doesn’t only mean apartments, although you can get apartments in the center of the city or on or near the university campus. It can also mean renting a cottage, a farm or country house, or staying in a bed-and-breakfast. Oxford also offers sites where people can camp or caravan. If you are a camper, you can simply pitch your tent in one of these designated areas in Oxford’s lovely woods and meadows. For caravanning, there are parking areas set up for recreational vehicles where people can park and stay as long as they like. For backpackers and other travelers stopping over in Oxford as part of a longer journey, hostels offer a safe and comfortable alternative to camping. Oxford’s hostels have dormitory-style sleeping arrangements, meaning several people from the same party share a sleeping area and one unit shares a common bathing area. Hostels are very popular with students and others who are traveling on a limited budget, since they are very inexpensive. Many old-style pubs offer not only good English fare but also include inns where travelers can stay after enjoying a warm meal. Not all pubs can offer you a place to stay, but the ones that can take pride in being warm and clean. Others might prefer to take the more traditional route of staying in a hotel while in Oxford. Oxford offers hotel rooms in every price range, from under sixty pounds to over a hundred pounds per night. No matter what the price range, these hotel rooms usually offer color television, telephone, hairdryer and trouser press. Some other ones also a restaurant or bar, free breakfast, or free wireless service. Most of them are within walking distance from central Oxford. Oxford is willing and able to welcome travelers to the city for any reason. No matter what your budget or schedule, Oxford has a place for you to stay.
