One of the best and worst things about being in business is all the travel. It seems like it is a good thing at first; you get to meet new people and visit places you may never have been before. But it also means airport after airport, restaurant after restaurant, and worst of all, dreary hotel room after dreary hotel room. Self-catering accommodations offer you a private residence, such as an apartment or house, with kitchen facilities so that you can cook your food at the residence, and not have to eat expensive restaurant food for every meal. It not only cuts travel costs for your company, it gives you the privacy and space to relax once you’re away from all those executive meetings you came to Oxford for in the first place. Of course, you can stay in a hotel on your business trip. But a hotel in Oxford is different from a hotel anywhere else. You can stay in a hotel that’s been run by the same family for generations, or a hotel in a building dating from the 1600’s. Your hotel can be in the woods, have a view of mountains or meadows, be in the center of the city, or be within sight of the rail station. You can have your own bathroom, free WiFi, 24-hour bar service, and cable television on the campus of one of the oldest universities in the world. Oxford is a modern city with a very long history, so it’s understandable that business executives might spend time there. But business travel doesn’t have to mean depressing accommodations, and in Oxford, there are enough good choices for the executive to make business travel as enjoyable as you always hoped it would be.
